Today I’m going to show you how I created this unique deer watercolor painting. This DIY deer painting is the perfect winter décor project. All you’ll need is some paper and black watercolor. I love the character that this painting achieved. The deer turned out to be so majestic and regal looking 🙂 WOW. Keep reading to find out how to make your own DIY deer painting for yourself or as a gift. It’s a guaranteed hit!
First thing’s first…
Gather all of your supplies you’ll need:
- Black watercolor
- Paint brush
- White paper
- Black charcoal (to sketch the deer with)
After you have your space all set up, let’s get busy!
I’ll warn you, this first part of sketching the deer looks a bit elementary. But that’s OK! It will all get blended out in a sophisticated way in the end.Sketch out your deer roughly where you’d like it on your paper using the black charcoal. While you’re sketching, periodically rub the charcoal out to blend the lines and create a “blurred” effect.
Now it’s time to grab your paint brushes and water. To begin, wet a brush with water only and trace over the deer.Once you’ve done this step you can pick up some black watercolor and work it in around your deer painting.
Play around with using more/less pigment and water on your brush to create more of an illusion. Use more water where you want the deer to look “smoky” and use more black watercolor where you want to define the deer.
Continue this step throughout the DIY deer painting until you’re satisfied. At the end, I splattered some of the black watercolor across the page.
When you’re happy, sign your deer painting and let it dry.
I hope you enjoyed the DIY deer painting post and maybe even try it out yourself! Until next time, stay warm this winter and stay tuned for more Painting Paige coming your way very soon!
