You guys! There’s no better way to get into the holiday spirit than getting your craft on 🙂 Leslie at Repurpose It! In Washington, IA seriously showed us the most fabulous holiday chalk painting techniques. Ok… they’re just everyday techniques, but taking this class at Christmas time was a dream come true! We learned how to perfect our color-washing techniques (a way to get a distressed fun look), how to add GOLD LEAF to your projects… need I say more, and so much more!
Here is an example of color-washing. I love the depth and how you can use different colors of your choosing to achieve a distressed look using the colors you prefer.
This is an example of a stain. It turned out gorgeous. If you’re using natural wood that hasn’t been stained or had polyurethane on it before this is an amazing technique. You can do this with any color of chalk paint and make it appear as if it has been stained with that color.
Here we mixed a metallic medium with chalk paint to give it a shiny finish.
Learning… Learning… Learning and taking it all in!
Ok so here goes the gold leaf! I mean I was totally addicted before this project was even close to being finished. It is messy but totally worth it. Since learning how to add gold leaf, I’ve added it to three projects in less than a month, embarrassing… I’m so addicted.
So festive, did you know you can decoupage with chalk paint too? I didn’t. We created these precious “JOY” pallets. Of course I picked the Christmas Polkadot cut outs 🙂
What a fun time we had at Repurpose It! Huge thanks to Leslie for teaching us all we know about chalk paint and more. Get your brushes out and create something to bring out your holiday cheer! (seriously… go do it, it will instantly brighten up your Christmas spirit)
